London: John Arrowsmith, 1850. London: John Arrowsmith, 1850. 68 cm x 55.5 cm, hand-coloured map, mounted on canvas. Ink signature of E.W. Banting (1880-1955), Professor of Civil Engineering, University of Toronto to lower corner. 1 vertical fold and 2 horizontal folds. When folded upper and lower cover are marbled paper, paper label with handwritten "Island of Madagascar / By J.A. Lloyd / 1850", stamp of the Royal Geographical Society to upper cover, and repeated on lower margin of map, light pencil annotations primarily to north end, map split at the folds. Rare (copy found at the National Archives, Kew and the British Library only). Capt. John Augustus Lloyd [1800-1854], Fellow of the Royal Society, 1830, Civil Engineer and Surveyor-General of Mauritius 1831-1840, entertained Charles Darwin and Stokes on their 10-day visit to Mauritius in April of 1836..
