The book tells the story of an expedition organised by the author, Her Majesty's Astronomer for Scotland, to Tenerife 'to ascertain how far astronomical observation can be improved, by eliminating the lower third part of the atmosphere'. The author took photographs during the ascent and the negatives of these were used by his publisher to produce the photo-stereographs in the book. The photos are of the scenery, the peak, the rock formations, members of the expedition, several of dragon-trees, a couple show the islanders. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE.
