In contemporary limp vellum covers, somewhat worn, with four, rather short alum taw ties. 194, [10] pages; signatures a-z4, A-B4, C2 (e3 mis-signed d3, s4 mis-signed q4). Printed in italic type. Book-plate on front free end-paper: ?The Library | St. Benedict's Abbey | Fort-Augustus | Scotland? with shelf-number beneath. Light worming in lower foredge corner of first blank, title and following leaf. Woodcut printer's device on title-page with light ink-smear partially over device and imprint; early manuscript inscription at foot, partly trimmed away. Woodcut medallion portrait of author on verso of title. Giovio's dialogue, the first treatise on emblems in Italian, was first issued in Rome in 1555 without illustrations. This edition includes 102 delightful oval woodcut emblems within rectangular ornamental borders attributed by Baudrier to ?Maitre a la Capeline?.
