Finis Pyramidis; or Disquisitions Concerning the Antiquity and Scientific End of the Great Pyramid of Giza, or Ancient Memphis, in Egypt, and of the First Standard of Linear Measure., Etc.
Taylor, Booker and Lackington and Co., London 1805 - 284 pp + (xi) [s.d. but 1805] Explanation of One Hundred and Twenty-Four Technical and Other Unusual Terms (xii). Includes subscriber's list and errata page. "Also, a complete description of Solomon's Temple of which the true dimensions recorded in the Holy Bible are explained, and the erroneous opinions of commentators refuted, being a recent discovery. And, Architectural Discussions on sundry controverted documents of Vitruvius. The canon of symmetries ascertained from his books. With the true ordination and disposition of some of the most celebrated Grecian temples and strictures on Mr. Stuart's second Vol. of the Antiquities of Athens." Includes first and final blanks. Scarce 1st edition of this interesting text, in contemporary marbled paper wraps and a brown tape spine (original bands still present), front cover detached. Deckle edges some of which have chipped (and really quite a disparity of cuts on the pages). Generally foxed, a few pencil notations that seem fairly old, signatures showing, at the back of the book there is some wear at the signatures with loss of paper (looks like worm holes but matches the stitching too well) with no loss to text. Some dog-earing at the corners. Everything present, still readable as is, an excellent candidate for rebinding. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
