Publisher's apricot-tan cloth stamped gilt & black on the spine & front cover. A fine copy in a lovely near fine dustwrapper showing minimal use. Neatly inscribed by Fisher in her later hand on the front free endpaper, in blue ink: "This is the first book I ever wrote, 1937 / for Albert Marquand and Andy ___ / M.F.K. Fisher / Glen Ellen / 1990". A superb example of this witty collection of sparkling essays on food lore, recipes & recollections, rarely found inscribed in excellent collector's condition.". The importance of Fisher cannot be underestimated. In a career that spanned more than 60 years, she published more than 30 books & numerous short stories & articles for The New Yorker, Gourmet & others. She has been dubbed "the doyenne, the grande dame of food" "Americas epicure laureate." "The most poetic voice of the working woman in the 20th century", W. H. Auden in 1963, described Fisher as "America's greatest writer" & Raymond Sokolov wrote: "In a properly run culture, M.F.K.
