The Pigeon Ace
The First UK printing published by Faber in 1945 (n.d.). The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Oblong octavo. Original printed pictorial boards, illustrated endpapers. Free from inscriptions, erasures and markings. The WRAPPER is complete and is in exceptional near Fine condition with just a tiny amount of rubbing at the spine ends. The pictorial design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Colour illustrations throughout by the author. A beautifully produced book from The Baynard Press in London during a time of ink and paper rationing. Marx (a distant cousin of Karl) was a noted textile designer. She was commissioned by the London Passenger Transport Board to design the moquette seat fabrics for use on the seats of London buses and tube trains. In 1929 she started to design dust jackets for Chatto and Windus starting with Albrecht Dürer engravings. During World War II she produced a small run of children's titles such as this title. Scarce with such attributes. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
