With a Foreword by Aymer Vallance and a Note on the Omitted Designs by Rainforth Armitage Walker. Tall quarto. Original limp vellum, brown calf backstrip, titles to spine and elaborate floral design by Beardsley to the upper board gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Engraved title, head and tail-pieces, initials, and 14 plates, one of which is tipped-in. A few minor spots and slightly rubbed areas to binding, light spotting to edges of text block. An excellent copy. First edition, first impression. This beautifully produced volume contains eleven previously unpublished designs by Beardsley for Le Morte D'Arthur (originally published in 1893), as well as the original designs for the covers of the issue in parts, a tipped-in print of the Merlin drawing, and critical notes. A lovely copy in superb condition.
