The volumes are unnumbered. Thirteen volumes were printed in London by Methuen in 1908; a fourteenth volume - 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' - was printed in Paris by Charles Carrington in the same year; a fifteenth volume - the spurious 'For the Love of the King: A Burmese Masque - was printed in London by Methuen in 1922. The publishers' bindings for all 15 volumes are uniform. 'The text is taken in most instances from the last editions issued under the superintendence of the author. In some cases the volumes contain additional matter which had not previously been reprinted, while some of the volumes contain matter here published for the first time', Mason, p.459. §One of an edition of 1000 sets on handmade paper. Mason, pp. 459-490. USA copyright slip, dated 1907, tipped in after title of 'The Duchess of Padua', as called for by Mason. Uniformly bound in original white buckram, gilt lettering, with Charles Ricketts-designed gilt decoration to upper board, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Some foxing to endpapers, spine of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' partly age-browned, touch of age-browning to the spines of two other volumes. In other respects a near fine set - unusually bright and well-preserved - of the first authorised edition, seldom found in the full fifteen volumes.
