Art Work of Seattle & Alaska. In Nine Parts
Racine, Wisconsin: The W.D. Harney Photogravure Company , 1907. Racine, Wisconsin: The W.D. Harney Photogravure Company , 1907. Original Wraps. First Edition. Tall thin folios. [26]pp. of text running throughout the nine parts. Illustrated with more than one hundred photogravures in blue tone and sepia. Bound in the original stiff maroon wrappers with quarter cloth over the spines, as issued, the titles decoratively printed in gilt on the front covers. The wrappers are in various states of 'Good to Very Good+ (the cloth spine missing from part 2; present but loose on part 9, resulting in the front cover being detached; some fading & offsetting to a few covers, a few with minor spotting); the contents however are universally Near Fine or better, with the original protective tissues. A completely acceptable set of this scarce pictorial work, highlighting the culture and natural beauty of Seattle and Alaska, as well as the architecture, maritime trade, etc. // Noteworthy for the large concentration of Asahel Curtis images, and not to be confused with the other compilations of "art work" of various parts of the Pacific Northwest issued around the same time (of which there were several.) "Associate artists" in this volume were W.P. Romans, Frank H. Nowell, Ashale Curtis, Thomas W. Tolman and Wylie T. Dennison. The text was written by Thomas Nowell.
