Ballads of a Cheechako
William Briggs, Toronto - 1909, 3rd Canadian Edition, First Canadian Issue Red Leather Variant. () Very good. viii, 11-138 [2] pp. 24 mo (pages 13.5 X 9.2 cm). Red leather wrappers with gilt lettering on spine and front cover. All edges trimmed in gilt. Wrappers are rubbed and worn at spine with some light soiling. Light blue marbled endpapers with some soiling, discolouration and light creasing. Text block is clean with a B / W frontis. Placed loosely inside is a silk bookmark with a Henry Burton quote. A beautiful little book with a great inscription. Inscribed by Service on the half title in black ink. Inscription reads "Fred N. Atwood, with the authors best regards and memories of the Nighthawk club, R.W. Service, Dawson YT 1910" Fred Atwood was a merchant in Dawson City who became a friend of Robert Service in the Yukon and afterwards in Seattle. A2. C. 1. In Mitham. Appears to be a red leather variant of this issue lacking the black stamped border. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
