Spine cloth with just a touch of sunning, slight repair to cloth to the top one inch of the front joint (barely noticeable), the text, maps, and photos are bright and clean with no signs of use; a tight, near fine copy.. Pp. xvi, 408, color frontispiece from a painting by A. Fitzgerald, 28 fine monochrome photographic illustrations on heavy stock (3 are very long foldout photo panoramas), 5 folding maps. Original fine weave red cloth, gilt-lettered on the spine and front cover, top page edge in gilt, thick sm 4to. The mountain range of Ruwenzori in central Africa is often referred to as the "Mountains of the Moon." Since the explorations of Stanley, these peaks, shrouded in mist, have beckoned explorers. The Duke of the Abruzzi's expedition was the first team to document and explore these peaks. Bookplate and blind-stamp of Antonio Gamero, Italian filmmaker, playwright and poet.
