Paris: Corra (Impr. de A. Tournon), 1944. 82 p.; 19 cm. 27 poems, 11 in a section titled Les Attentes and 16 titled La Prison. Number 84 of 560 numbered copies. Bernard was a French physician who later had a worldwide reputation, famed as the pioneering French hematologist who diagnosed the cancer of the Shah of Iran. In 1940 Bernard joined the French Resistance, was caught and imprisoned until the end of World War II. These poems are his reflection of a France under Nazi rule. Of this very rare first edition, the WorldCat notes a copy at Oxford and two in Paris. None offered for sale. Mostly uncut; soft cover; Very Good considering the wartime paper. Stock#OB923.
