Books - [PLEASE SEE SCANS] in Good green boards with attractive blue decorated illustration design to the front boards of a young woman in Regency dress carrying a basket of flowers framed with floral decoration, same floral decoration to spine with gilt lettering to front boards and spines - slight bumping and slight rubbing to the extreme corners and extreme ends of the spine, some fading to the front board of Volume One of Mansfield Park and some other marking/ browning to the other boards. Contents: In Sense & Sensibility, there are only protective tissues to the frontispieces, as published or possibly subsequently removed by a knowledgeable previous owner, recognising the damage that these chemically compromised tissue guards represent to the illustrations they were designed to protect. Tissue guards were introduced to protect against 'offset' from illustrations to the text pages facing and it was always intended that they should be removed when the illustrations were stable, usually within a year. The habit of retaining them has proved disastrous to many otherwise fine books as the tissue is chemically reactive over time and reacts with the paper of the book causing browning and spotting most noticeably here in the frontispieces to Volume I of Sense and Sensibility and both volumes of Emma. SEE SCAN. [We would strongly recommend these tissues be removed before they can cause more harm but for the sake of completeness leave that up to the new owner]. Some staining to the illustration on page 183 in Volume Two of Mansfield Park and more slightly to frontispiece of Mansfield Park Vol. II . Previous owner's inscription to the half title page of Northanger Abbey. All top edges gilt although a bit dusty now. Original ribbon markers are a bit thin and frayed and are missing in Emma Volume One and both volumes of Mansfield Park otherwise the contents are clean and tightly bound.
