Resolutionum criminalium Petri Caballi ... centuriae tres
Venetiis : Apud Bertanos, 1672. Folio extra (32 cm; 12.125"). [14], 362 [i.e. 374], [66], 269, [71], 48, [12] p. Caballo (d. 1616) was a Florentine judge and legal writer who saw his "Resolutionum criminalium" achieve great acceptance upon publication in 1606 and as attested to by the several later editions in the 17th century. This dense work on criminal law begins with a title-page in red and black with type in a great variety of point sizes of roman and italic. The text is printed in double-column format and each "century" begins with a large woodcut headpiece and ends with a small woodcut tailpiece. This edition, "Hac quarta editione pluribus mendis expurgatae," has several very good indices of "arguments," words, and "things. Later limp, but rather stiff, vellum. Inkstains on bottom edge of closed volume; some captions a little shaved, half-title a little tattered. Remarkably solid and => clean.
