Memoria histórica sobre las operaciones e incidencias de la division libertadora
First edition of this remarkable source of information on the Independence of Peru, finely illustrated by Argentina´s foremost lithographer. 1832. Buenos Aires. Imprenta de la Gaceta Mercantil. In 8vo (202 mm x 142 mm). 1 [blank] + xv + 1 ff. + 247 + 3 ff. + portrait, 2 folding maps & folding table. Contemporary half calf, spine flat, front board reattached, with minor loss, lettered and tooled in gilt, a bit worn. Title reinstated and with erased stamp, normal browning and foxing, short tear to map, else fine. A very good copy of the first edition, dedicated by Arenales. The work focuses on the second campaign, of 1821, to Peru, sent by San Martin. The illustration includes a portrait of General Arenales and two folding maps (one of Peru), all engraved by Bacle ?one of Argentina´s foremost lithographers- and a folding table entitled ?Egercito Libertador del Peru, Estado general de las fuerzas con que se halla hoy en dia?. Arenales was an Argentinian military, engineer and politician; as a military, he acted at the orders of San Martin at the Andes army, and then in the northern frontier and finally at the war with Brazil, probably during the last chapters of his career he obtained the information he would use to write this work. He was also chief of the topography department of Buenos Aires; the work was written by his son. Sabin, 1930, apparently never saw it.
