London: A. Millar, 1753. Three volumes complete - Volume One - [14], xxxv, [3], 762pp; Volume Two - viii, [4], 614pp, [54] and Volume Three - xx, 750pp, [38]. Rebound in modern half morocco and boards, smooth spines, divided into six panels by gilt double rules, calf title label to second panel, volume label to fourth, with central lozenge tool in gilt to remaining panels. Externally very good, internally lightly browned with some occasional foxing. Titles in black and red, with a portrait of Bacon to volume one by Vertue. Lowndes describes this edition as "more methodical, more elegant, and every way more complete than any preceding" Lowndes 93. First Thus. Half Morocco and Boards. Good. Illus. by Vertue, George.
