De imperio Magni Mogolis sive India Vera Commentarius. & varijs auctoribus congestus. [India vera commentarius]
Lugduni Batavorum, Ex Officinia Elzevirian, 1631. FIRST EDITION. 16mo, 110 x 54 mms., pp. [vi], 285 [286 - 301 Index, 302 blank], engraved title-page by C. C. Duysend, full-page botanical woodcut opposite page 96, contemporary vellum; ink stains on end-papers, rear end-paper and rear hinge wormed, but a good copy. The Dutch geographer Joannes de Laet (1581 - 1649) was a Director of the Dutch West India Company; he had the good fortune to study at Leiden University with the scholar Joseph Justus Scaliger. The work is still a valuable early account of India and was translated into English in 1928 as The Empire of the Great Mogul. Willems 354. Copinger 1332.
