London: C. Greenwood, 1838. FIRST EDITION. Large quarto, pp.[2] xx, 470 [12]. With a large double-page hand-coloured map of Kent divided into Hundreds to prelims, as well as 80 lithographic plates, in the style of copper engravings. In contemporary black half morocco with raised bands and gilt titles to spine. Purple leather grain-effect cloth boards; all edges and endpapers marbled. Washed library markings to lower right of title page; black ink ownership inscriptions to fly-leaf and title page. Some spotting around plates, mostly without tissue guards. 4 inch tear to the top of pp.241/242. Moderate wear to faded boards; joints lightly rubbed. Very good overall.A large, descriptive work on the history and topography of Kent, produced as part of a county series by the London-based cartographer. Containing a particularly fine coloured map.
