Robert Baldwin, London 1812 - First edition. Approx. 11'' by 8.5'', dark blue cloth boards with half leather binding, gilt titles on spine. Viii + 552 + xci pp. Spine & corners have some edge wear, 2'' scuff to rear binding (see picture). Occasional foxing/marks, mostly at front & rear. Rebound at some point in the past. Contents include the history of the Society & summaries of the sciences themselves as well as the papers, appendices of fellows of the society, the charter. The mathematics section is particularly good, ranging from the Egyptians & ancient Greeks to Descartes theory, Newton etc. 'Mathematics constitute the most splendid monument of the human intellect.' Ex reference library with name/old sticker on spine, pictorial bookplate on front pastedown & library rules pasted on rear pastedown, single stamp on first page. No other library markings.
