Fastes de Napoleon Premier
Paris: Plon; Paris: F. Chardon Aine 1857 - 2 volumes, bound as one. Oblong folio, 86 x 45 cm. Bound in later buckram cloth. Mounted India proofs. 25 pages of text before the plate volume of 35 plates. Institutional stamp on dedication page. Dampstains along lower margin to much of the text volume. Plates generally free of markings. Fasti di Napoleone, is composed of plates engraved by Francesco and Giuseppe Rosaspina, Michele Bisi (1788-1874) and Giuseppe Longhi (1766-1831), from paintings that Andrea Appiani (1754-1817) made 1801-1807 for the Cariatides Room of the Royal Palace of Milan at the request of Napoleon and Prince Eugene. The original frescos were destroyed in 1943 during Second World War and so this work is a lasting testament to the now lost works of Appiani. The plates reflect 39 scenes, starting with Napoleon's successful 1796 campaign to the victory in Friedland in 1807. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
