Bram Stoker's (1847-1912) only successful novel, "Dracula", lays bare many of the anxieties that characterized his age: the repercussions of scientific advancement, the consequences of abandoning traditional beliefs, and the dangers of female sexuality. To this day, "Dracula" remains a fascinating study of popular attitudes toward sex, religion, and science at the end of the nineteenth century. However, it has also embued our culture with an entire world of vampire fantasy which continues to flourish in the written word, stage and screen.___DESCRIPTION: Bound in black natural-finish woven cloth boards with blind embossed illustration on the front cover, black linen buckram spine with gilt lettering and rules, blood-red endpapers, title page in red and black with small illustration of a vampire bat, illustrations throughout which consist of 33 wood engravings (of the full-page illustrations, eight are in three colours); quarto size (11 1/8" by 7 1/8"), pagination: [xviii], [1]-410, [blank], colophon [412], limited edition, this number 351 of 1500, signed by artist (in red ink) Felix Hoffmann.
