A diary kept while with the Peary Arctic Expedition of 1896.
1897 - First edition, inscribed. 21 cm; 83 pages, and frontispiece map. Inscribed and dated by Hoppin on front blank, with manuscript corrections in text, and additionally annotated by the author on blank following last text page. Bound in original green cloth, without wear but cloth is buckling slightly. Reference: Arctic Bibliography 7401. Hoppin was a mineralogist who accompanied Peary on his 1896 Arctic expedition, the aim of which was to search for minerals, fossils, a previously seen meteorite, and to visit Greenland. The ship used on the voyage was the Hope, sailing out of St. John's under Commander Peary and Captain John Bartlett of Brigus, with several experts from different fields and a crew comprised mainly of Newfoundlanders.
