Watson C. Squire [two copies, one in fine binding and one in wraps] [original box]
Century History Company, New York 1911 - New York: Printed for the Century History Company by John C. Rankin Company, [no date, circa 1911]. One copy finely bound and one copy in wraps (possibly a proof), plus original box. Octavo, 24 pp. with tissue-guarded frontis engraving of Governor Squire. Hardbound copy is 3/4 red leather with marbled boards, gilt separating lines, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Copy in wraps is simply the identical contents from half-title to flyleaf as stapled self-wraps. Hardbound copy: near fine, no salient defects at all save faint offset from frontis engraving to opposing blank verso; very bright and clean, virtually new-looking. See scans. Copy in wraps: same, except for triangular offsets to front cover apparently from having lain under the 3/4 leather of the hardbound copy for some time in the box. Box [which is unmarked]: pencil notation as to the contents by previous owner, otherwise very good plus. The scarce honorary binding of the (here 24-page) biographical section on Watson C. Squire, Civil War veteran, Governor of Washington [state] when it was a territory, and later a Senator from the State of Washington, excerpted from Clinton Snowden's "History of Washington". Beautifully bound. Scarce in any form; wraps copy is certainly more scarce yet, may be unique. l51n [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
