Spine tanned and slightly rolled, edges of boards a little rubbed and faded, spotting to edges of text block. A very good copy in the supplied jacket which is price-clipped and rubbed and nicked along the edges. First UK edition, first impression. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To C. Day Lewis Esq. With regards, Francis Iles, 12.11.1951". As For the Woman is a novel of thwarted passion published pseudonymously by the mystery writer Anthony Berkeley. The recipient, Irish poet Cecil Day-Lewis, also published mystery novels under the pseudonym Nicholas Blake, and both men were members of the Detection Club. Originally published in the US in 1939.
