London - Macmillan and Co., 1890 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A Nursery adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with text adapted to nursery readers by Lewis Carroll. Containing twenty coloured enlargements from Tenniel's illustrations, the cover designed and coloured by E. Gertrude Thomson. Second issue, with the original price of 'one shilling'. To front a poem A Nursery Darling and a Preface (Addressed To Any Mother) dated Easter-tide 1980. To rear An Easter Greeting to Every Child Who Loves Alice signed 'Your affectionate Friend, Lewis Carroll' and a poemChristmas Greeting(From a Fairy to a Child) by Carroll, a publisher's catalogue of works by Lewis Carroll and to last page a 'Specimen Page. . . Being a facsimile of the Original MS. Book, afterwards developed into Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with Twenty-seven illustrations by the Author. 'With an ink inscription to front pastedown. With bookseller's blindstamp to front free endpaper for 'W. H. Smith and Son, London'. Condition: In a quarter cloth binding with coloured illustrated boards. Externally, sound but with bumping and wear to extremities. Slight warping to tail of front board. Marginal staining to rearboard. Front joint starting andrear joint tender withsplitting to cloth, with backstrip lifting. Rear hinge strained. Internally, generally firmly bound. Bright but with the odd spot, slight tidemarks and some handling marks to pages with slight foxing to endpapers. Overall: GOOD.
