Not a full Bible in the usual sense, Mortier presents the books of the Bible through his illustrations, each accompanied by a short telling of the story in standard prose. The fine, large engravings were produced by or from the works of several masters. Many were later reproduced and used again in later and lesser bibles, in most case significantly reduced. The artists include Jan Luyken, Jan Goeree, Bernard Picard and others. While the text is in Dutch, the captions for the engravings are given in both Dutch and French. Complete copies are scarce, complete copies untrimmed and in full contemporary state are rare.
