Printed for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, London 1848 - 68pp. With a woodcut frontispiece and seven woodcut illustrations in the text. Stitched within original publisher's tan printed paper wraps, woodcut illustration to lower wrap. A trifle dust-soiled, loss to head and foot of spine with some tearing. Light damp-staining to foot of upper wrap and bottom margins of all leaves. A chapbook, published under the direction of the Committee of the General Literature and Education, appointed by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, which tells the tale of young Arthur Granville in his discovery of the beauties of the Lord's creation through the diligent teachings of his mother. Towards the end, in seeking to impress upon her son how fortunate he is to live in an enlightened Christian land, Mrs. Granville states; '.there are some countries almost destitute of the means of grace, and some quite so'. To which Arthur replies; 'Yes mamma, I know the heathen countries are.' the elder Granville continues; 'some of our own colonies.are, to a great extent in that sad condition.there is not a church for a hundred miles around.'
