[Photo Album]: Red Horse Construction Site in Honduras
Honduras, 1990. Near Fine. Quarto. Blue plastic photo album measuring 8" x 12" containing 177 color photographs measuring 3.5" x 5" without captions. Also included are newspaper clippings and military ephemera. A collection of photographs from David Douglas while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force Red Horse (Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer) construction unit, the 820th Civil Engineering Squadron out of Nevada, in Honduras in the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Depicted are military vehicles and troops constructing a base near La Mesa, San Pedro Sula. Their deployment, according to a newspaper article found in the album, was to rebuild an airfield. Another clipping reads, "the Nellis squadron is in Honduras to build a cargo staging area that would be used to unload supplies during an emergency, such as an invasion." Pictured throughout the album are the men of the 820th in camps, on site, and on the coast. Also included are Douglas' I.D. badge, a handwritten poem, and a card in English and Spanish asking for help in the case of an emergency.An extensive collection of Air Force construction squadron's work in South America.
