1855-1861 Account of Scholars St. Albans Vermont
St. Albans, Vermont: Rev. C. Fay, 1861. Ledger. Good. Approx. 15" x 6" tall ledger. Marbled paper covered boards backed by brown leather spine. Paper on the front board is stained. The rear cover is in very good condition. Contents of the ledger are clean, organized and for the most part legible. Ledger consist of [75] leaves with several tipped in and laid in account notes, a letter, and an 1861 American Telegraph Company express form. Items summarized in the accounts include costs for boarding, books, tuition, clothing, cash, Church contributions, and other misc. expenses occurred by students while at school. Most every side of paper is used in recording the detailed accounts. The 4 page letter laid inside concerns an overpayment of a students account. The telegraph form is signed by G. B. Carhart of New York City, Sept. 27 1861 (possibly the same Carhart as George B. Carhart Railroad executive). The location of this ledger is found written on the first page "Account of Scholars St. Albans Vt.". CU Fay also written on the first page. A list of account names (not every account is included and their are possible name misspellings) include: Charles W. Fox, Annie Salmon, Herbert Jewell of Rochester, Fridini Neely, Samuel Stevens of Rochester, Susan Cooke, John Griswold, Robert Cooke, Mary Brown, George Dinsmore of Keene, Anna Bransley, Annie Talman, Fanny Rich, Mary Cooke, Edward P. Scott, Brigham Scott, Smith Stevens, Frank Cooke, George Seldon, Henry Seldon Neely of Rochester, Levi Henry Brigham Scott, Henry Cleveland of Mobile aged 13, James Denton, George Cogswell, Marianna Balsine, Bernard Balsine, James Carhart, John Gilman, Thomas Edwards, Theodore Cogswell, Thomas Edwards, Eugene Dutton, Henry Ralston of Macon Georgia came August 10, 1860, and other student accounts.
