Publisher's red flexible cloth stamped in blind and gilt, all edges marbled, red silk page-maker. A superb copy with bright gilt lettering and richly marbled edges; binding bright, square, and tight; maps properly folded and free of tears. Previous owner’s name on verso of front fly leaf, front end papers toned, otherwise nearly pristine. One of the most sought-after Baedekers and considered the most complete. Hinrichsen E244. & Issued on the eve of the First World War, this is the first and only edition published in English (we also have on offer the 1897 edition in German), with the final up-to date-maps published of Russia for the general public until the fall of the Soviet Union, in 1991. Poland and Finland are included, as well as excursions to Tehran and Peking via the Trans-Siberian Railway. Note: With few exceptions (always noted), we only stock Baedekers in exceptional condition, carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene wrappers.
