Seduction of the Innocent
New York & Toronto: Rinehart & Company, 1954. "'Seduction of the Innocent' is the complete, detailed report of the findings of famed psychiatrist, Fredric Wertham, on the pernicious influence of comic books on the youth of today." Right. Pernicious. Look, pal, if it hadn't been for comic books, I wouldn't even know what "pernicious" means. (Okay, okay, so I'm still not certain, but I can definitely spell it, and that's a beginning.) First edition, scarce first state w/two-page bibliographical note at rear, listing publishers, among them Ace Books, Will Eisner Productions, Famous Funnies, Harvey Publications, Hillman Periodicals, Marvel Comic Group, Ziff-Davis Publishing, and dozens more. Greyish boards w/black cloth backstrip w/white and red lettering, 400 pages, illustrated w/16 pages of black-and-white illustrations intended to show the menace posed by those great old comics, dust jacket design by Philip J. Fiorello. Mild slant, slight wear to corners/spine ends, dusty edges, previous owner's name stamped to top of front end paper, in price-clipped dust jacket w/a hint of spine sunning, edgewear, light chipping, impressions/scratches. Jacket now in protective mylar sleeve.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good to Very Good/Good. Octavo -- from 7.75" to 9.75" Tall.
