Will o' the Wisp // The Syracuse Review, January 1957
Williamsville Junior-Senior High School // Syracuse University Press, Williamsville, NY // Syracuse, NY 1957 - These two volumes (one signed by Oates) feature Joyce Carol Oates' first two appearances in print. Will o' the Wisp, the literary journal from Oates' senior year of high school, contains her first published piece, titled "A Long Way Home." She was next published in her university's literary journal, The Syracuse Review, which features her story "Lament Cantabile." These two volumes offer a fascinating look at the beginnings of a storied literary career. Both volumes are first printings in stapled wraps, Will o' the Wisp is signed by Oates on the front cover, has very faint shelfwear to spine ends, edges and corners of covers, some very slight cross creases along spine, an extremely slight crease near upper corner of front cover, a touch of faint rubbing, and a few small spots of very faint yellowing to front cover, otherwise a solid VG+ copy. The Syracuse Review has very slight bumps to spine ends and corners, a hint of very slight shelfwear to edges of covers, some slight foxing starting to outside edge of front cover with a touch of browning to spine and edges of covers, very faint rubbing, and a touch of wear to spine fold which has a couple tiny peels, otherwise also a solid VG+ copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]
