This study that called for the abolition of slavery was a controversial book when it was published. Its argument is grounded in legal and, to some extent, theological sources. Slavery was abolished when the Second Empire fell in 1888. This is an important date in the history of human rights because Brazil was the last nation in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery. OCLC locates 5 copies worldwide, 1 in North America (at UT-Austin). Another copy located at UC-Berkeley Law School. Not in Borchard.
