Histoire de la Révolution de 1848]. Autograph manuscript.
Probably Paris, ca 1850/1853]. - Folio (ca 205 x 315 mm). 2 fascicules: 32 ff. (counted as 1-24 and 8 uncounted), some with extensive writing on versos (a total of ca 47 written pages) and 26 ff. (counted 62-87). Sewn with twine and green silk bands. A complete chapter of the revised manuscript (a heavily revised fair draft showing several departures from the printed text), with accompnying detailed notes for an entire volume of her principal work, her "Histoire de la Révolution de 1848", published from 1850 onwards. The present first fascicule, "Sommaire du Volume III", gives a minute account of the events of the months of Mai to December 1848, citing the referenced sources: thus, it constituted the structual basis for the third volume, published in 1853. The second fascicule, captioned "Chapitre II", begins with the "Suites de la journée du 15 mai" and reaches as far as the "élections du 5 juin"; this is the working manuscript of the second chapter of the third volume in its near-final stage. - Marie comtesse d'Agoult, one of the principal women writers of French political liberalism, was (as companion of Franz Liszt) the mother of Cosima Wagner. Like her sometime friend George Sand, she published under a male pseudonym, "Daniel Stern". Her Paris salon was a meeting place for the writers and artists of her time, but also for several up-and-coming politicians of the Second Republic. Thus, d'Agoult became acquainted with a number of personages who would play a role in the run-up to the Revolution of 1848. - Some brownstaining; occasional edge flaws; on leaf mostly trimmed away save for a narrow tab near the bottom. A highly interesting document of the method of writing employed by this emancipated woman writer and journalist. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
