The VCH is a longstanding English local history project (begun in 1899) whose ambitious goal is to painstakingly chronicle the regional histories of Great Britain county by county. Much like the Rivers of America series each county history was headed by editors native to the area. Volumes I and II on Northamptonshire proceeded this one in 1902 and 1906, respectively. This, a supplemental volume, chronicles the genealogy of relevant Northamptonshire families in great detail. The VCH continues publishing to this day.
