Little Brown & Co. , Boston 1868 - Small 8vo.141pp. As title page has no mention of the author , someone has written in her name, in pencil, under the title, as Mrs.Daniel Curtis. A prophetic drama of a woman who will run for election to USA President. A second printing, signed by author , on blank page preceding the title-page, to "Louis and Laurence, from their sister A.R.W.C. , March 1888. Hommage de l'auteur". Page 9 to 73 is the play "The Spirit of Seventy-six", which predicts the election of a woman to the U.S. presidency. The play script is followed by "A Change of Base and Doctor Mondschein.", both also in play format. Spirit of "76 has a printed list of characters, accompanied by a pencil list of the actors, also stating "Private Theatrical , last given at house of Augustus Lowell, in Brookline". Laid-in is a a printed program, (lettering in distinctive green and purple ) of a performance at Selwyn's Theatre , April 20, 1868 , ( a first production ) setting the play in Boston and Newton , Mass. Clean and tight. Upper right corners , to page 15 have light dampstain, not affecting the text. Brown clean endpapers. Dark green cloth, clean and bright, gilt-lettered spine. A Feminist vision, Utopian and futurist, written at a time when a woman could not even use her own name on the title-page.
