Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's handsome full cloth, expertly rebacked and recased retaining the original endpaper with the manuscript inscription of Thomas Ramsay, Derwent Villa, dated 1845; cloth blind ruled and decorated with central ornament on both sides, spine gilt. Overall an excellent copy, untrimmed, in fine condition. ~ First edition. John Ramsey McCulloch (1789-1864), Scottish economist. This Treatise is probably McCulloch's most important contribution to economic theory, an expansion of the wage-fund theory which he relates directly and proportionally to the amount of investments. Goldsmith, 34239; Einaudi, 3574; Kress C, 6658. Among his many noteworthy works is "Principles of Political Economy" (1825), in which he essentially followed Ricardo.
