Leipzig - Bernhard Tauchnitz, 1877 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition. A scarce first edition of Verney Lovett Cameron's influential work on the African continent. Complete in two volumes. Verney Lovett Cameron (1 July 1844 24 March 1894) was an English traveller in Central Africa and the first European to cross equatorial Africa from sea to sea. His travels, which were published in 1877 in this work, contain valuable suggestions for the opening up of the continent, including the utilisation of the great lakes as a Cape to Cairo Road connection. In recognition of his work he was promoted to the rank of Commander. Condition: In half calf bindings with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, sound with slight shelfwear and rubbing. Internally firmly bound, bright and generally clean with a careful repair to one page. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
