The village of Overschie in Zuid-Holland
Skilful drawing of the village of Overschie seen from the water. At the centre the village church surrounded by several houses, several figures alongside the canal and a small sailing boat on the canal. The viewing point and composition used by Verrijk strongly resemble, but are not identical to, those of the etching that Abraham Rademaker made in 1725. Overschie used to be a municipality in the province of Zuid-Holland, but in 1941 it was annexed by Rotterdam. Pen and brush and grey ink with grey wash, over traces of pencil, on laid paper, 176 x 271 mm. Within ruled ink border. Watermark: French lily in crowned shield. Signed "d. Verrijk. del. ad. viv: 1761" in pen and grey ink on lower left, titled "Overt-Schie" in grey ink in lower middle and numbered "No. 2" in brown ink on lower right. Left edge partly pasted on old mount (numbered 69 and 1090 on recto, old price on verso: "f 3 - 5 1/2"), a few tiny and hardly noticeable foxing stains in sky area, otherwise in excellent condition.
