Edinburgh - William Blackwood and Sons, 1870 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. An anothology of poetry first published in Blackwood's Magazine, written byWilliam Edmondstoune Aytoun. Illustrated throughout by Sir Joseph Noel Paton and Waller H. Paton. Some of the titles included are The Heart of thr Bruce, The Island of the Scots, Hermotimus and The Refusal of Charon. William Edmondstoune Aytoun (1813 1865) was a Scottish lawyer and poet. His reputation as a poet is based mainly on Lays of the Scottish Cavaliers (1848). Sir Joseph Noel Paton (1821 1901) was a Scottish artist, born in Wooer's Alley, Dunfermline, Fife. He painted in the Pre-Raphaelite style and became a painter of historical, fairy, allegorical and religious subjects. Bookplate of 'Callum' to front pastedown. Condition: In a red morocco binding. Externally very smart, though with some very light rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have just the odd spot. Overall:NEAR FINE..
