Three volumes In 8vo (193mm x 122mm). 1 [blank] + 3 nn + lxxvi + 285 + 1 [blank]; 1 [blank] + 2 nn + 375 + 1 [blank]; 2 nn + 333 + 1 [blank]. Magnificent contemporary red morocco gilt, vase tool at corners, elaborate gilt spine, with two green morocco labels, boards with tripple gilt fillet in a rectangle and anphors in the corners formed, a few edges very slightly ?and easily restorable- rubbed, else a perfect example. Scattered foxing spots, else very fresh and clean, remarkable copy. Well known and sought after edition, illustrated with a frontispiece with the portrait of the author after De La Tour and Marillier and 9 full plate plates, after Marillier, engraved by Ingouf, Macret and Triére. The Catilina, in the third volume, is dedicated to the Marquisse of Pompadour. Brunet says ?Edition assez belle?. Crébillon (1674 ? 1762)was a tragic dramatist, member of the Académie; his writtings are of a highly tragic nature. Cohen, 263. Brunet II, 412.
