Amsterdam, Aux dépens de la Compagnie. 1724.. 2 volumes, 1724, complete set, French text, second edition. 4to, approximately 255 x 195 mm, 10 x 7½ inches, titles printed red and black with engraved vignette, 70 engraved plates (as required), a few head- and tailpieces and decorated initials, pages (32), 448; (16), 552, bound in contemporary calf, double ruled gilt border to covers, rebacked to style, raised bands, gilt rules and gilt lettered morocco label, original endpapers retained. Covers rubbed and scuffed, corners neatly repaired, endpapers browned at edges, some pages and plates lightly age-browned, occasional slight foxing, heavy in a couple of places, occasional neat ink marks in margins and neat underlining, some neat ink marginal notes, 2 small ink marks on plate 3, 1 just affecting the image, slight offsetting from some plates to text. Binding tight and firm. A very good copy. The interesting plates show all kinds of weapons, soldiers of different arms, formations, sieges and other attacks, battle plans, fortifications, military ships.
