The Unvanquished: Sartoris Stories
New York: Random House, 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/near fine. Edward Shenton. Illustrated by Edward Shenton. Fine in an about near fine jacket, unclipped ($2.50), lightly toned at the edges and the spine, a small chip at the head of the spine. Grey cloth with black and red ink lettering and decorations. Square and firmly bound with a red top stain. The chronological predecessor to Sartoris, a novel set in Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha County. Originally published as short stories in various magazines in the 1930s. As could be said about many of Faulkner's novels, The Unvanquished is the story of Southern characters who "survive the war by many years, but never escape its influence."
