(viii), 531, (23) pp. A fine 17th century Louis XIV binding with his crest featuring the letter “L” at its centre to the upper board, gilt rules with fleur-de-lys cornerpieces, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered to one panel and decorated to the other compartments with slightly ciphered double “N” initials, all edges gilt, marbled pastedowns with the later armorial bookplate of one James McDonald to the front, inserted at the start of the volume is a prize letterpress announcement from the Coll├Ęge de Navarre with manuscript additions giving the name of recipient and the names of the schoolmasters Andreas Guiganrd and Nicolaus Tavernier, two ownership inscriptions to the title, some neat early annotations to the front and rear endpapers and also some marginalia mostly to the first part of the text. Light dampstaining to the inside upper corners at the front and rear, an old stain to p. 67, sympathetic repairs to the spine ends, joints and corners, abrasions to the boards with loss to the leather at three points revealing printed text beneath, the lighter scuffs somewhat ameliorated.
