William Heinemann, London 1913 - 1913 at copyright; no other dates. Features an introduction by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. Beautifully illustrated with forty-four tipped-in colour plates in addition various black-and-white decoration, ornamentation by Arthur Rackham. Beige cloth boards, gilt embossed cover and spine titles, design, moderate shelf wear, bow, some damp-stain, discoloration, esp. to back board. Front with bright design of stylized pelican and spine with dragon looking cat. Thick heavy stock bordered leaves with mounted plates throughout. Generally very good interior w/captioned tissue guards; moderate discoloration at front, back few pages, endps. Few tissues w/moderate fox. Original printed bookplate inside cover remains unsigned. Bind good; hinges intact. A solid, intact rarity. Rare original matte brown dust wrapper, some chip, edge wear; front missing half bottom portion - all titles, illustration in place. Front features flourishing young satyr-like being with a short-eared hare and magpie. Contents and plates arranged by theme, similarities with brief summaries of each tale or illustration. From Rackham note: A Few of the illustrations have been published in magazines or periodicals; in most cases as first sketches in black and white only.
