Nothing Personal
[Harmondsworth]: Penguin Books, 1964. Small splits at the spine head, else close to near fine in silver and black embossed laminated white boards, housed in the matching slipcase with a split to the top edge that has been archivally repaired, and a chip to the paper on the spine, taking out a few letters in "Avedon".. First U.K. Edition. Quarto in slipcase. A fabulous association copy, INSCRIBED by Avedon to Ringo Starr: "For / Ringo / with / gratitude / Dick Avedon." Text by Avedon's high-school friend, James Baldwin. A brooding, gloomy look at America during the Mad Men era, with a jarring juxtaposition of American Nazis and Allen Ginsberg side by side, a demonic picture of President Eisenhower, and a stoned, pouty Marilyn Monroe next to Dorothy Parker, her teeth blackened by dark lipstick. Shot in a luscious charcoal gravure that only adds to the foreboding. (Parr / Badger, v1, 252).
