Photo Album]: Mississippi River Boat Cruise
Mississippi 1950 - Oblong quarto. String-tied brown leather over paper boards with an illustration on the cover measuring 10" x 13". A collection of 140 black and white and one color photographs most measuring 3.5" x 5.5" with a few 8" x 10", with captions. Very good minus with spotting, wear on the edges, tears, and a few missing photos. An extensively captioned photo album from a boat cruise on the Mississippi up to the mouth of the Ohio river during the 1950s via the Union Barge Line. Every page includes a detailed description of the sites such as, "the smallest park in the world where Father Hennepin first saw the St. Anthony Falls," next to a photograph of Lucy Wilder Morris Park. Under a photo of the captain is says, "he gave us a lot of information about 'Old Man River.'" The banks of the Mississippi are carefully cataloged, construction, damns, and bridges all documented. The trip took the tourists up to the mouth of the Ohio River which can be seen here. "At a bend in the Ohio River where we could see a long view up stream, the tower dam waking, it's more like a long lake than a live river. It was fascinating." A complete and well organized documenting the Mississippi and it's landscape.
