The Wind in the Willows
Charles Scribner's Sons, New York 1933 - Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932) was an English writer; this is probably his most famous novel, a classic of children literature. It concerns the escapades of four animal friends who live along a river in the English countryside - Toad, Mole, Rat, and Badger. This is a children's story that is as much for adults as children. It was originally published in 1908 and again in 1913. The sale item shows 1933 on the title page as well as the copyright page and is probably the first American edition of the third reissue. Blue cloth binding with gold lettering on spine and three gold cartoons on front board. Binding tight but slightly cocked, with bumping at top and bottom of spine plus a bit of sunning on the spine. Surprisingly there is no foxing anywhere. Bright yellow end pages with illustration of the Willows neighborhood. Only flaw is the dedication to the previous owner on front free end page. Unclipped dust jacket ($1.00) is sunned on spine, chipped at top and bottom of spine, and worn at all extremities but there are no tears. This volume is in very good shape for the age. 12 mo (6.75 to 7.75 inches). 312 pages. Now Brodart covered to prevent further deterioration. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
