Soundings in feet and detailed sailing instructions including to avoiding the thick kelp in winter. Lovely elevation details included with this small chart. Alexander Dallas Bache (1806-1867) was an incredibly prolific surveyor who worked as the superintendent of the United States Coast Survey, the oldest scientific organization in the U.S. Federal Government. This map is a fascinating historical document of an ever-changing coastline.
