Aluminium Handbook, 3 Vol., Vol.1, Fundamentals and Materials (Englisch) Gebundene Ausgabe von Frank Glaze (Übersetzer) Sprache: englisch; deutsch
Alu Media. Since it was published over 50 years ago, Aluminium-Taschenbuch has established itself in the German speaking world as the standard work of reference for aluminium. Over 100.000 copies have already been sold and the book is now published in three volumes. Aluminium-Taschenbuch's success can be attributed to a number of factors: the wide range of topics covered, which makes it an invaluable aid to anyone involved in the aluminium industry, be it in the manufacture, processing or use of aluminium and its alloys the quality of the content, thanks to the contributions of specialists in their fields and last but not least, the fact that regular revisions keep Aluminium-Taschenbuch right up to date and abreast of any new developments in the industry. Ease of updating was a useful added benefit that resulted from a decision, taken a few years ago, to issure Aluminium-Taschenbuch in three volumes. The increasing globalisation of markets has led to demands for a similar publication in English - and this is a demand that the planned English language edition of Aluminium-Taschenbuch will soon be able to fulfil. Volume 1 (approx. 700 pages), has been published in November 1999: The first chapter deals with all stages of the production of aluminium, from the mining of bauxite ore through to producing the starting material for the manufacture of semis. Extensive production data and statistics are included. The properties of unalloyed aluminium are covered in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 is devoted to phase diagrams, including diagrams relevant to the latest alloy developments. Chapter 4 and 5 deals with the different types of aluminium alloy system and the properties of aluminium alloys. Thermal and mechanical treatments can be used to modify and improve these properties, as discussed in Chapter 6. Alloy development is the subject of Chapter 7. New alloy developments in the fields of cast bearing alloys and dispersion-strengthened materials are included. Oxidation and corrosion are important properties of aluminium and are dealt with in detail in Chapter 8. An extensive table details the behavior of aluminium in contact with a wide range of potentially corrosive media. A good understanding of alloy designations is important when dealing with aluminium alloys and Chapter 9 provides invaluable insight. Materials testing is an important, integral part of any quality management system and Chapter 10 details the destructive and non-destructive test techniques available. The corresponding testing standards are included in an extensive table. Detailed appendics (approx. 100 pages) include data on standard alloy compositions and conditions, with comparisons of the different international standards used. Specialists have been assigned the task of translating the new, Englich language edition of Aluminium-Taschenbuch and revisions to the German edition will be made with a global readership in mind. Vol.2: Forming, Casting, Surface Treatment, Recycling and Ecology 2003
